June 19, 2008davetrinkle.com, Roanoke's newest bloggerCongratulations to Roanoke Councilman Dave Trinkle who launched his blog today. Trinkle in April told us that he planned to be more open in carrying on a dialogue with constituents and was considering a blog. He said then in an e-mail that "it would be experiment and I worry about it being used in the negative as well as the time commitment on my part but plan on trying to start something soon." In an e-mail, announcing his blog today, Trinkle wrote, "I am hoping through this process to be more informed on issues from the public and for citizens to hear my viewpoints and even hear about issues in general well before any council vote would occur. We can exchange thoughts- positive or negative- and hopefully at the end of the day I am able to reach the best informed and most progressive decision I can on specific issues." Here's to hoping that Trinkle does enjoy an engaging, civil and candid dialogue with Roanokers and isn't turned off by the negativity that he will surely encounter. |

AnthonyTrinkle is an awful Councilman..He was nothing but a Harris yes man...who was instrumental in destroying Victory Stadium...You think this is forgotten issue..ask Harris and Fitzpatrick..Out of the Gang of Five who actually voted to destroy the Stadium..None remain on Council..2 didnt run...2 were voted out..one resigned in shame..Trinkle and fellow Harris schill Mason will both be voted out in 2yrs..so Trinkle better get a lot of blogging done between now and then(did I mention that Trinkle was a Carilion Employee..).we all know who's gonna end up with the Victory Stadium property ,dont we?

AJAnd there you go, Mr. Trinkle. You'll probably find that histrionics are par for the course on a blog. Please don't feel that you have to waste your time responding to posters that seem to exist just to fling about invective. I'm hoping that your blog is beneficial for both you and your constituents.

luanne tYou offer excellent advise, AJ. However, those invective flingers seem to get even more wound up when reasonable people decide its best not to respond. It's almost as if they expect they are OWED a response. I would suspect that for a politician this is even more so.

Adrian LewisI am a lifelong resident of Roanoke and attended games weekly for years at Victory Stadium. I had to see the shame of the stadium rottening. A coat of paint every ten years wasn't enough. I've seen fans flip backwards as the bolts in the seats broke. I for one was ashamed of such a relic. Victory Stadium was laid to rest which was long overdue. People, we must get over what has happened. Nothing can be done to bring the stadium back. How do we keep young adults in this city? Think about it, they're our future. I do find that Roanoker's are resistant to change. I still hear about the Art Museum; they should've built it somewhere else. Well, the Art Commission ask the City for help and in return the City donated a 4 million dollar tract of land, where would you build it? Guess what,it's there, live with it. One of the great things this City has done was to do CPR on downtown. Spacious living, fine food, night life and overall beautification. May I suggest that we not focus on the stadium, Mill Mountain or an amphitheater but look at the REAL issues. To list a few, crime, drug activity, gangs, taxes, the extremely high drop out rate, etc.
Please remember, when driving a car one must look ahead to see where you're going and just glace into the rearview mirror.
