July 22, 2008McCain's op-edAfter Sen. Barack Obama published an op-ed in The New York Times explaining his views on Iraq, Sen. John McCain sent a response. The New York Times rather famously rejected it. Having read the rejected piece on The Drudge Report, I think The Times made the wrong call. McCain's piece is a legitimate response and deserved to be given equal space. |

HenryIt can't be legitimate. It doesn't agree with Obama's position.
I mean, DUH!
It's rather scary that a journalist reads an op-ed by a guy who will most likely be President and label's it "legitimate". Do you think it is possible that Obama or McCain will write an op-ed that is "illegitimate"? It's like the NY Times thinks McCain is some old guy driving on the New Jersey Turnpike in a ratty old station wagon with "Vote for McCain" spray-painted on the side trying to get a slot on the Art Bell show.
Sheesh!

WillHenry...
Not sure what your point is here. Dan is agreeing that McCain's op-ed deserves the same publication that Obama's received.
Why are you throwing a hissy fit?
And by the way, it's not a ratty old station wagon...its a ratty old bus! HA! HA!

Dan RadmacherHenry,
Yes, I could see a presidential candidate submitting an op-ed that was nothing but a rehash of campaign talking points, and I could understand if a newspaper didn't want to publish that.
I don't think McCain's piece - or Obama's - were such pieces.

Blue JohnI don't think it matters whether McCain is in a ratty old station wagon or a ratty old bus. Either way the "old guy" is the one with the hot, hot, hot young blonde at his side!
I thought seventy was the new thirty.

JoshHopefully, this bit of censorship will bring McCain's reply more attention than it would have.

JohnI must say that I am truly and utterly shocked to see this statement come from Dan based on his political views, and I applaud him for overcoming (perhaps temporarily) pointless principle that some would have demonstrated against John McCain because of his political views.
