Outlaws 10U girls basketball team finishes 21st in U.S.

They have been home from Orlando for a week and now the Botetourt Outlaws take a final bow...

From Coach Don Helms of the Cloverdale area:

The Botetourt Outlaws 10U girls basketball team has returned from the
2008 Division 1 AAU National Championships at Disney World ( The Outlaws, the 2008 Virginia State Champions, finished 21st out of 89 teams at the Nationals.

At the National Championship, the Outlaws advanced to the Championship
round by defeating the famed Tennessee Team Pride, the No. 4 team in the
nation heading into the tournament, and also beat Orlando, Florida,
a team that finished 9th in the country.

The Outlaws came close to even greater heights as they lost a heart breaker of a game by 1 point, and lost in overtime to a team from Birmingham, Alabama.

It was a dream season for these 5th and 6th grade girls. They played
over 70 games and competed in tournaments and/or defeated teams from
Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, West Virginia, Missouri
and Alabama (and even played a game against a boys' team along the way).
After their final game, their parents bought them a well-deserved limo
ride around Orlando. It was a fitting end as the girls provided their
families (and the community) with a great ride throughout the season.

We had a previous post about the Outlaws on July 18. We've also added the Outlaws to our Botetourt Summer '08 map to show where folks in Botetourt have been going this summer. If you have photos to share, you can send them to us at news@botetourtview.com
