Read Mountain football team remains unbeaten
The Read Mountain Starz gave a true team effort two weeks ago for their fourth victory of the season against the Hidden Valley Middle School Eagles. With injuries to several starters many backup players were forced into action, carrying the Starz to the 20 - 0 shutout. The offense pounded out 170 tough yards on the ground on their way to 200 yards of total offense. The defense held their opponent to under 100 yards for the third time, giving up only 72 total yards to the Eagles. They added two interceptions with returns of 56 and 52 yards, deflected two passes, and recovered a fumble on a kickoff.
Last week the Starz took on the Northside Middle School Norsemen and brought home the 22 - 0 victory to remain unbeaten for the season. The Starz ground game produced over 175 yards rushing, averaging over five yards per carry and two touchdowns. The passing game added 42 yards and another score as the Starz piled up 260 total yards of offense. The stingy Starz defense kept the Norsemen in check, allowing only 61 yards rushing and 64 yards passing for the game. They added an interception and caused a fumble to help preserve the Starz's fourth shutout of the season. The Starz will be tested this Thursday at 4:45 as they travel to Vinton to take on a strong William Byrd Terrier team.
