Maurauding bears carry off planter tubs near Buchanan

Gloria Carter from Buchanan sends us this message about bears in her neck of the woods -- and in her case, we really do mean the woods:

"As for the bears--when I started pulling out of the garage last night--I saw our beautiful bird feeder on a pole in the side flowerbed, totally uprooted and lying on its' side in the driveway--fortunately, before I ran over it!--and called Dale to come outside and get it! The last three nights they have carried off 4 of my big planter tubs, flowers and all far in to the woods--we have not walked far enough to find them yet and probably won't! GRRRRRRRRRR!! The joys of country living on Purgatory Mountain, which is taking on its fall colors rapidly now."

We'll be adding this sighting to our online map of bear sightings in the Datasphere, our central storehouse of all things data.

So have you seen a bear in Botetourt County? How about a mountain lion? We have an online map for mountain lion sightings, too. You can share the particulars at news@botetourtview.com
