Update on man who approached shoppers at Bonsack Wal-Mart

If you are female (and some men have sent us the e-mail as well) over the age of 18 with an e mail address and live in Botetourt County, you have probably received the e-mail about a young man approaching a shopper at the Bonsack Wal Mart last week. Below is the response of Botetourt County Sheriff's Department Crime Prevention Specialist, Sharon Coleman:

"I got this last week and checked it out with Roanoke County. I believe the subject was apprehended; however, his main task was to find employees that would take merchandise in (probably stolen) to get refunds. From what I was able to obtain from Roanoke County, he was not attempting to steal from or harm anyone.
But it is a good thing to always stay aware of what is going on around you. Roanoke City has had some purse snatching/wallet thefts in various areas around town, but from what I understand, most of the victims were intoxicated at the time. Holiday time is a prime time for thieves in parking lots because they know people will be doing more shopping and be laden with bags."
So there you have it! Be careful and watchful while shopping anywhere.
