Three founders of the Church of the Transfiguration honored
The Knights of Columbus at the Church of the Transfiguration in Fincastle, the only Catholic Church in Botetourt County, recently honored the three surviving members of the 15 families that began the mission 20 years ago to establish the church located in Fincastle. Those members are Rosalie Sloan, Helen Castellene and Madeline Theimer.
"Each of the three founders were given a commemorative plaque in honor of their fortitude and commitment to the establishment of the church," said KOC member Chuck Vasser. Fifteen member families began planning for the church at Rader Funeral home in December of 1988. the church sanctuary was dedicated in October of 1994. It is located on the Roanoke Road, US 220 just south of the town of Fincastle.
The Knight so Columbus is an active Catholic men's organization that raises funds for church and community projects through out the year, noted Vasser. The KOC will soon make another $500 donation to the Christian Free Clinic, he said.
