Last night they lit the snowflake tree in front of the Troutville Town Hall and fire and rescue building. The Troutville Sunshine Ladies used the snowflakes as a way for area residents to honor love ones and memorialize those important folks no longer around for the holidays. The cost of a snowflake is $5 and proceeds go for the Town Park. Call the town office at 992-4401.

Many folks showed up to eat goodies, prepare the snowflake for hanging out doors and sang Christmas Carols after Mayor Bill Rader lit the tree. The chilly air lent a seasonal twist to the event. Afterward, the crowd of about 20 went back inside for hot chocolate and cookies.

Lee Minnix, one of the Sunshine Girls said, " I hope the snowflake tree idea becomes a tradition."

  1. I, too, hope this becomes an annual event. A great way to remember a loved one and an opportunity to help our wonderful park!

  2. I thought it was a very nice event. You know getting to sing Christmas Carols aound a Christmas tree really gave me the holiday spirit. I put a snowflake on the tree in memory of my Daddy who passed away in 2007. How good to have the opportunity to give him a snowflake and help the park at the same time. I just love Troutville-- it is a great town!

  3. I, too, sincerely hope the Snowflake Tree becomes an annual event. Today, there are 70 snowflakes in rememberance of our loved ones. Having the tree has made my Christmas very special. The tree will be lit every night at 6 P.M. Thank you Sunshine Girls.
