Civitan Honors Special Education Week with Botetourt Buddies

The Botetourt Buddies, teachers and aides and Civitan members gather for a picture after the pizza party.
"This is National Special Education week," said Civitan member Lisa Crawford of the Cloverdale area. The Civitan Club of Botetourt brought in pizza and drinks and had a party with the Botetourt Buddies on Thursday afternoon. Every one was in high spirits as the students, faculty and Civitan members had a pizza party together in the LBHS gymnasium foyer.
Botetourt Buddies is a club began to pair special education and general education students in social settings where they can build friendships and share fellowship. Vanessa Ramos, a junior at LBHS began the program, because her sister Stephanie is in the Special Education program. Tater Benson, special education teacher and all of his instructional aides, (click here) also attended the party.
One of the missions of Civitan International is to promote programs that assist youth with special needs. Tomorrow, Friday January 23, the Civitan group will take a pizza party to James River High School to honor the special education program there.
