A Class Act at CAMS Teaching Class Action said Teresa Simmons Civics teahcer at the school.
We have curfews? Juveniles can face charges as an adult? Parents are required to send their children to school? These are just a few of the questions students investigate when Deputy Luke Bennett spends a week in the classrooms of Diane Blevins and Teresa Simmons teaching a course known as Class Action. He brings to life the study of state and local law enforcement. He has the students examine the Code of Virginia along with the court system when he shares numerous examples of situations he has encountered as a law enforcement officer. His examples are always current and applicable to the life of an every day teenager as well as an adult.
Class Action is a law-related educational program facilitated exclusively by law enforcement professionals for our school children. Class Action provides a basic understanding of state law that governs socially acceptable behavior in the home, in school, and in the community for middle and high school students and their parents. By educating our students about citizenship and the short and long term consequences of unlawful behaviors, we reduce crime, violence and substance abuse in Virginia.
Class Action provides character education and teaches children their rights and responsibilities as citizens of the Commonwealth. Children are encouraged to care about the quality of life in their schools, their homes, and their communities. For further information go here. Submitted by Teresa Simmons
