Star City CPR will teach classes in Buchanan on June 3 and 23
"We live at least 25 minutes from any hospital and time can be a real survival factor in heart attacks, drownings, choking and many other unexpected health issues," so said Michelle Hutchens and Andrew Moore both volunteers for county rescue squads (and Moore is also a paid employee.) They will be offering two classes for CPR certification in June on the 3rd at 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. and on the 23rd at 6 p.m. -9 p.m. at the Buchanan Rescue Squad building on Main Street. The cost for the class is $25. Infant, Adult and Child CPR will be taught as well as the Heimlich Maneuver and how to use an AED. CPR certification lasts two years and could be a valuable lifesaving investment.
Every year according to the American Heart Association, EMS treat 300,000 out of the hospital cardiac arrests. The death rate death for such out of the hospital cardiac arrest is 92 %. The main reason is lack of timely treatment. "If more people knew CPR, the survival rate would be better," said Hutchens. "Living out here in a rural area is beautiful but has an element of danger when talking about quick treatment for cardiac arrest," she noted.
To register call her at 460-5995 or Moore at 537-0003. They also can make arrangements tot each groups at churches, civic groups, scouts just about anyone who wants to know how to do CPR.
