MacKenzie Tyree of Daleville was named earlier this year to the Prepvolleyball.com Defensive Gym Dandy Team as a second team selection. The website gives national focus on high school volleyball players and it is the second year in a row that Tyree has received the honor. She signed with Carson Newman University to play volleyball and is featured  in the above file photo the day of the signing. Tyree graduated on June 12 in the LBHS Class of 2009.

According to the website: "The designation is largely subjective, I'll admit, because it's much more difficult to determine who is the absolute best in the back row than, say, an outside hitter, whose height, jumping ability and power provide discriminating measuring sticks. I gave deference to seniors and to those players whom college coaches have determined are the best of the best in the backcourt. High school coaches and club directors were asked to nominate players for this list. The only limitation was the player had to be generally considered among the best five defensive players in her state regardless of class year or school classification. "

The site said this about Tyree:

"MacKenzie Tyree, Sr., Lord Botetourt (Roanoke VA) - Tyree owns the state record for digs in a career and has authored the two highest single-season dig totals in state history. It's no wonder that she was First Team All State in 2008 and repeated her selection as Blue Ridge District Player of the Year. Also an all-District basketball and tennis player, Tyree is a natural leader. "She motivates just by being, but is also very vocal and supportive of her team," said Nicole Johnson. "She NEVER accepts less than her best at everything!"
