Richard Sealey retires-- sort of !

Richard Sealey has retired from the State Health Department but will continue to consult.

Richard Sealey has retired from the Virginia Department of Health after 35 years. Sealey has been a familar force for the Commonwealth and many Botetourt homeowners  encountered him when putting in septic sytems at new construction and replacing old systems. Prior to the septic inspections, he did other areas of inspections including food service and long term care facilities.

Sealey came to Botetourt County from Central Virginia on January 1, 1988 and has raised a family here. He is married to Robin Sealey and is the father of three children, Richard, Jr, William (Will) and Meghan. The fun things in his life outside the VDH? " I coached Recreation league sports soccer, basketball and baseball for 25 years and I participated in many of the Attic Productions summer musicals."

He is technically taking the summer off,  then he will begin a career in consutlng in alternative septic systems. As a consultant, he will work under an engineer in the privitized field, who will approve systems in the future he feels. A trend he says that has been on the scene for twenty years. "Changes in the sewage laws in 2001 have hastened the drive to alternative systems," he said. Until this fall, he will take it easy, go on a beach trip and travel with Robin to the Netherlands in September where is daughter is attending college.
