Photos: Fincastle Library hosts Summer Reading Program

Three Botetourt County libraries, Fincastle, Buchanan and Blue Ridge, hold weekly programs dedicated to summer reading.  This Wednesday, the Fincastle Library hosted with a puppet show put on by Applause Unlimited.  Mr. Christopher, the story teller and puppetier, told the story of the Velveteen Rabbit to a group of over 20 kids and their parents.  Complete with music and laughter, everyone enjoyed the show.

Before hand, kids came to pick up their certificates, special coupons (to places including the Buchanan Theatre, Cracker Barrel, Golden Corral and the Salem Red Sox) and T-shirts for completing their reading goals from Morgan Rakes, a library volunteer.  She explained that for kids seven and younger, five hours of reading is the goal.  For kids 8 and up, ten hours of reading is the goal.  Many were already picking up their rewards!

The Summer Reading Program lasts six weeks, and runs until July 24.  The entertaining programs given by the libraries all provide incentives for children to read.

The weekly schedule is as follows:
Wednesdays at The Fincastle Library, Thursdays at the Blue Ridge Library, and Fridays at the Buchanan Library.   Programs start at 9:30 and 11 a.m.
