James River Band prepares for competition and New York City

This Saturday is the first competition for area bands and it will be held at William Byrd High School. The
James River High School band has forty members and eleven of them are middle school members from Central Academy.

On Tuesday, September 15, the JRHS marching Knights practiced for the big event.  The River band practices three afternoons per week for two hours. They also play at home football games.

The even bigger event takes place on November 11 in New York City.  They will play a patriotic tune in the Veteran's Day Parade!

The half time and competition performance this year features four of the top songs of the 80s including "Jump , Wanted Dead or Alive, 8675309 and Don't Stop Believing." When all of the students played the music sounded great. The flag team is very busy through the four numbers as well.

The band boosters are selling spirit buttons at home football games and Director Will Divers said that donations for the Veteran's Day trip can be sent to the school attention to him and checks made out to JRHS Band.
