The Lord Botetourt Marching Cavaliers began their competitive season with a “high note” at the William Byrd Preview of Champions on Saturday, September 19.  The Marching Cavaliers received 1st Place Band, Best Music, Best Marching, and Best Effect in Class III.  The band also received a rating of Excellent.

The Cavalier’s 2009 marching show is titled “Phobias”. The show outlines seven of the most common phobias:  Arachnophobia (spiders), Ophidiophobia (snakes), Acrophobia (heights), Aviophobia (flying), Autophobia (being alone), Agoraphobia (open spaces), and Claustrophobia (confined spaces).  John Fannin, Assistant Director of Bands at Murray State University in Kentucky, wrote the music for the show and Teddy Holcomb, a Lord Botetourt Alumni, wrote the percussion parts.  The band is under the direction of Chris Caldwell, Director of Bands at LBHS.  Other band staff includes Jamie Lawson, Assistant Director; Todd Russell, Colorguard Instructor; Jonathan Estep, Colorguard Tech; Kiara France, Percussion Instructor; and Andy Hudson, Visual Coordinator.  Drum Majors for the 2009 season are Tanner Lambert, Rebecca Wilson, and Morgan Bohannon.

The Cavaliers perform at every home game, most away games, and several competitions throughout the year.  Their next competitive performance will be at the James River High School Mountain Magic Invitational on October 3.
