James River seniors sponsor a benefit spaghetti dinner for Amanda Petty
When senior Amanda Petty had a serious car crash on Labor Day weekend her senior classmates and school mates were stunned. They have since rallied around her buying t shirts with her picture on the front and making plans for a spaghetti dinner. During the lunch periods at JRHS on Tuesday, students flocked to tables to show their support. "Volunteers to help with the dinner are really needed," said Chelsea Rodriguez. She has a sign up sheet. "We need kids and parents or community volunteers who want to help to be at the church by 2 p.m. and sign up for shifts to go until 9 p.m. "
"On Saturday night October 17, from 4 p.m. til 8 p.m. a benefit spaghetti dinner will be held to raise funds for her and her family," said, Deanna Broughman whose daughter is Chelsea Rodriguez and a friend and classmate of Amanda. "That could have been any of our kids and my heart goes out to all of them."
The dinner will be held at Fincastle Baptist Church on the Roanoke Road just south of the Town of Fincastle. Donations of $10 are asked per plate for the meal. Great entertainment will be there to serenade the crowd. Carryout will be available and tickets can be purchased at the Daleville site of the Bank of Fincastle Operation Center as well at the door.
David Austin and Friends, the Burlesons and Vance Conner are top line musicians from the area who are donating their time to help the family, she said.
The dinner will consist of spaghetti, bread, salad and a brownie or a cookie. "This is a fundraiser to help Amanda and her family and we appreciate any donations of goods or money for the dinner," said Chelsea. "I am excited that I can do something to help my friend and her family. We all want the Petty's to know we support them." For more info on how to help call Broughman at 1540-863-3880
Currently Petty is in Atlanta receiving therapy and treatment.
