Q&A with Buchanan District supervisor candidate Crystal Ware

Voters in the Buchanan District -- the precincts of Buchanan, Mill Creek, Roaring Run and Springwood -- have a contested race for the Board of Supervisors on Nov. 3. We put the same five questions to each candidate and here’s what they had to say.

Here's a link to Terry Austin's answers. Crystal Ware's answers are below:

1. What is the most important issue facing Botetourt County during the next four years?

Most important issues facing Botetourt County in the next four years is the Counties budget, economic development and flattening of real estate growth.

2. How do you propose to deal with this issue?

How do we deal with this matter is by looking at where potential cuts in the budget can be made and who it will affect and how. Being conservative and proactive in all budgetary efforts for the good of the people in Botetourt County will be the key to the counties future. Smarter spending and allocation of funds.

3. What is the best decision that Botetourt County has made in the past four years, and why?

The best decision that I feel that has positively affected Botetourt County is the improvements to the county schools, James River High School for example. As a former graduate of James River and a parent whose child will be attending James River in fall of 2010 it is exciting to see such improvements that were long over due. The improvements at Lord Botetourt that have taken place and that are planned to take place in the near future. The projected planning of improvements to other county schools is very exciting to me as a parent who sends her child to public school and as a huge supporter of excellence in educating all children in Botetourt.

4. What is the worst decision that Botetourt County has made in the past four years, and why?

Decisions in Botetourt County made based on ideas that the County Government felt were “good” decisions at the time that now are shown to have been extremely poorly thought out and planned is not my focus. I can not change the past and mistakes that were made here in Botetourt by past elected officials. As a hopeful future elected member to the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors I plan to focus on the needs of the people and all communities here in the county. Conservative spending, future planning of economical growth and development for our county will be my focus that will positively impact and serve the entire region. To stop funding projects that will continue to obligate the residents to pay more taxes.

5. What else should voters know about you before they vote?

What people should know about me that they don’t already? Respectfully I am on a personal mission to help bring our Great County and Country back to the grassroots, to the heart and soul of where the founding father’s vision was. To be a leader, truly in some way inspire others to be proactive, to encourage others to become involved in this mission. I want to see younger people stepping up and lead everyone back to the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, to search for an understanding and educate themselves as to where this county and this country is headed if we do not give decision making back to the people. This is why everyone should vote, do not be someone who will vote for the first time based on color, sex, or religion, vote because you have the freedom to vote, you have the right to make a choice. If you do not care to know anything else about me know one thing “I am here for you, the people, I have no personal agenda, I am just like you.”
