Teaberry's and adjacent properties appear to be on hold

Teaberry's and adjacent properties which were under construction have been in a holding pattern for months and the site has a rough, unfinished appearance noticed by many readers.

Teaberry's and the adjacent retail property and sites have been left unfinished for months.

Probably the number one question asked of the Botetourt View by Daleville residents and those who travel through every day is "What has happened to Teaberry's?" First, the owner, Lisa Janney, has been busily operating an eatery in Vinton and has another location ready to open in Salem according to the Roanoke Times, but it looks like the Daleville location is in a holding pattern said Brandon Nicely of the Botetourt County Building Department.

The economy no doubt may have played a large part in the slow down, he noted.

The Janney are in a partnership with two other people and the restuarant is also tied to property planned for development on the hillside and acreage below and behind the historic home where the popular Teaberry's  formerly located on US 220 alternate the Cloverdale Road was to locate an upscale steak and seafood restarant last summer of 2008 when we first reported the impending new Teaberry's location after an interview with Lisa Janney who operated the restaurant and also is an event caterer.

After the story, grading took place on the adjacent property and a retaining wall went under construction. That was months ago and the improvements to Teaberry's and construction of the wall came to a halt. A construction company involving John Surprenant and  third an unamed individual are also involved in the development of the properties and Teaberrry's.

According to Nicely, "We have met with the developer and expressed our concerns about the site and Teaberry's. The three groups involved have been cooperative and said they have intention of finishing the project."

"Botetourt County has highly encouraged the parties involved to dress up the site before winter begins,"said Nicely who hopes progress will be noted by October 31.
