New administrators abundant
Schools across Montgomery County will have new leaders this fall.
A list of administrator assignment changes from the MCPS Human Resources shows seven new principals and assistant principals, with a couple of school leaders moving up to the big School Board Office.
Here's the list, as I have it.
* Nelson Simpkins from Principal EMHS to Dir of Secondary Education
* John Wheeler from Asst Prin EMHS to Principal EMHS
* Amy Williams from Asst Prin AES to Asst Prin BHS
* Dave Dickinson from Asst Prin BHS to Prin SMS
* Ryan Hitchman from Sch Admin in MD to Prin CMS
* Barbara Erdelyi from Asst Prin CMS to Asst Prin CHS
* Seydric Williams from Teacher - MCPS to Asst Prin CMS
* Rebecca Counts from Prin SMS to Acting Social Studies and Character Ed. supervisor
I'll be spending some time with another "internal transfer", Braden Bushman, this week for a closer look at Dr. Tiffany Anderson's plans to promote leaders. Bushman has been hired on at Eastern Montgomery High as the AP. The school board hasn't officially approved him, but he has been spending time at the school since finishing up as summer school principal at Kipps.

My brother is going into sixth grade at CMS this year, and his principal is now Ryan Hitchman. When I revisited the school at his open house and chatted with many of my old teachers, they just could not sing enough praises for Mr. Hitchman. Apparently he recognized (FINALLY) that the receptionists at CMS were cold, prickly, unfriendly women, and he assigned them to jobs largely out of the public eye. In doing this, of course, he was then in need of new secretaries. To fill one of these gaps, Mr. Hitchman hired an excellent receptionist from Falling Branch Elementary, Mrs. Spahr. I remember her from my days at Falling Branch, and she is one of the friendliest, most genuinely kind people I have ever met. In addition to greatly enhancing the front office at CMS, Mrs. Spahr also provides a familiar face for FBE students. Kudos to Mr. Ryan Hitchman.

I think that the teacher’s abundant is outrageous. The more teachers there are the more trouble the kids are going to be getting into. A student someday might decide to do a favor for a friend, if that favor is to open there locker and get something out for them, but if they get caught they can get into MAJOR trouble. This is just one of the many things can get in trouble for. The more teachers and principals there are the more the students are tempted to get into trouble.
As a freshman just coming from Christiansburg Middle, one of my assistant principals from the middle came up to the high school with my group. Barbara Erdelyi, she has "followed" as you might say; the group from last year up to the high school. She said “following up my students will decrease the number of students getting in trouble." I disagree! I think that increases the number of students getting in trouble. She might know us; but the high school is a whole other world. We are going to be able to make new friends, maybe even get into the wrong crowd. No one knows what is going to happen to them in high school.
There is also a good side about more teachers and principals. More teachers and principals mean that the school is going to have more order. It will be easier going for the student to be able to do our best. The teachers are here to keep order and to teach us things that will make us more successful when we get into college. Teachers are a big part of a students or kids life.
To be a teacher is not just easy work. They have to be on track with everything they do. A teacher can be more than a teacher. They also can be a mentor and a life coach. I have been before to talk to a teacher. Teachers are good talkers. They helped me with my problems, and I know that there are more students that talk to teachers or principals. I think that students and kids don’t give teachers enough credit for what they do. I think that we need to appreciate our teachers more. Thank a teacher every time that you see one.

I can remember having Mrs. Barbara Erdelyi as an assistant principle in elementary, middle, and now high school. Many students assume about her, before they get to know her. She is strict at times, but a very strong leader to the school community. My brother is now in 7th grade and his new principle is Mr. Ryan Hitchman, I have not formally met him but when I went with my brother to open house he seemed like a nice man, who will have strong plans for the middle school. I have to disagree I think the more staff there is in a school the more one-on-one attention for students, the more help there will be when needed. The teachers have a very hard and stressful job even if we dont show it all the time. We do apperciate all the staff, even if dont show it everyday, because they are the ones that are helping to shape and brighten our futures. So THANK YOU!
