Cub Scouts celebrate Nursing Home Week

Karen Nelson at Warm Hearth Inc. in Blacksburg just sent in this warm-hearted photos of and information about local Cub Scouts celebrating Nursing Home Week:

Cub Scouts from Pack 145 in Christiansburg were invited to participate in the Celebration of Nursing Home Week at the Kroontje Health Care Center, located on the campus of Warm Hearth Village.

The theme for this year’s event was “Nurturing a Love that Lasts.” A supportive and caring environment, such as a nursing home, nurtures and enables residents and families to continue growing, learning and teaching through various ways.
Scouts and residents worked together to plant a garden that will be enjoyed by the resident and their families throughout the summer months. The scouts helped with the initial planting and residents at the Kroontje Center will continue to tend the garden throughout the summer.

When asked what they enjoyed most about the project the scouts said meeting the residents and spending time with them was most enjoyable. Projects like this one encourage our children to give back to community and to reach out to others in special ways.

Scouts participating in this project included Ethan Bass, Evan Curtis, Evan Spencer, Alexis Marchand, Garrett East, Gabriel Dean, Brandon Marsh, Grant Williams, Zack Nelson, Lisa Bass (leader), and Karen Nelson(leader).
