Girls Scouts planning day of fishing

The Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council sent out this release about an event in August for girls interested in fishing or learning more about it:

Girls Invited to Attend Everything’s Fishy Patch Day at Claytor Lake

Girls of all ages are invited to Everything’s Fishy Patch Day at Claytor Lake State Park in Dublin, Saturday, August 22, 2009.  The camp, sponsored by Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council, runs from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Virginia Bass Association and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries are hooking on the line with the Girl Scouts to provide a REEL fun day.  Activities include fishing/water safety, fishing instruction by champion fishermen, fish conservation, a casting competition, and a boat ride around the lake!  Bring your own rod, or use one of ours, to catch a fish using your new skills (with a little luck!).  The event fulfills patch requirements for Brownie and Junior fishing patches (not included).

Girls ages 5-18 may attend.  The cost is $2 for girls and adults (includes a hotdog lunch provided by the Virginia Bass Association).  There’s an additional $10 membership fee for non-Girl Scouts.  Girls ages 16 and older will need a Virginia fishing license.  Dads are welcome!!!

For information about Everything’s Fishy or other Girl Scout camp opportunities this summer, or to request a copy of Girl Scouts’ summer camp brochure, call 540-777-5121 or visit www.gsvsc.org/c_dates.htm.  For information about joining a Girl Scout troop, call Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council at 540-777-5100 or 800-542-5905.
