Olivia Cleary of Riner makes the Shamrocks softball team

Olivia Cleary of Auburn High School has made the 14U Shamrocks team, a top-ranked softball team out of Northern Virginia. Here's the full release from Bill Cleary:

"Local Fastpitch Softball Player Makes 2010 14U Shamrocks"

Riner-Freshman Olivia Cleary of Auburn High School has made the 2010 14U Shamrocks nationally competitive travel softball team based out of northern Virginia. Olivia is a former New River Valley Diamonds & Virginia "Class-Action" Scrappers player. She will be competing this fall & next spring/summer in tournaments throughout the United States. Her willingness to practice & strength conditioning year-round has allowed her to "step outside of the box" by setting goals to achieve that will "raise the bar" for her future endeavors within the softball diamond. A former coach once told her "the number does not make the player but the player makes the number. This phrase has stuck with her and given determination to succeed by making the number. She gives credit to such coaches as Sherry Millirons, Julie Akers, Dave Potts, Dave Hurd, & Ron Reynolds who have helped her develop the competitive skills to play at the Shamrock organization level which is well known to NCAA Division 1 recruitment teams. Some of the tournaments will be played in Colorado, Oklahoma, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois, etc.. Olivia is a solid utility player with a strong bat and good speed around the bases. She gives credit to her accomplishments towards her parents/family for financial & emotional support as well as all the coaches that have helped her along through this adventurous journey. NCAA softball camps have attributed to her game by showing her the correct skills/drills to use. Olivia has a vision of playing NCAA Division 1 softball after high school and studying hard to make good grades for a possible scholarship in the horizon!!!
