Diane Yopp submitted this photo of the Auburn High School class of 1964 reunion. The reunion was held Oct. 3 at the Riner Fire Station. Yopp said "We get together each year and have a wonderful time of fellowship."

Bill Cleary, of Riner sent in this photo of the 14 U Shamrocks team. Cleary says they took 1st place by "going undefeated 6-0 at the NSA Fall State Military Appreciation Tournament at Botetourt Sports Complex in the 16U age bracket" the weekend of Oct. 17. Olivia Cleary of Riner and Courtney Cooper of Cave Spring were local girls playing for the Shamrocks.

Weekly update from Shawsville Farmers Market

Come join us for Halloween at the Shawsville Farmers Market this Saturday from 9am-noon in front of Meadowbrook.

Be sure to stop by with your little ghosts and goblins to trick-or-treat at each vendor's booth! Also, Meadowbrook Library is hosting trick-or-treaters from 10am-4:30.

Photo: Olivia Cleary of Riner goes .500 in softball tournament

This photo represents two local girls competing within this fastpitch softball tournament @ the Botetourt Sports Complex in Botetourt, VA this past weekend Oct. 17th-18th, 2009. Olivia Cleary of Riner posted a 6-12 .500 batting average that included a 2-run homerun as well as going the distance on the mound for a 9-3 victory over the 16U Maroon Crush. Courtney Cooper of Cave Spring was a guest player who performed well @ the plate with a "hot" bat & good speed in the outfield. The team posted a 6-0 record for the tournament & these girls played hard in such intense weather conditions with wind chills in the 30's throughout the weekend! Olivia Cleary is featured on the bottom row far-right & Courtney Cooper on the top row far-right.
