Freshman Raines sidelined

Virginia Tech announced Wednesday that freshman power forward Cadarian Raines suffered a fractured left foot and is expected to be sidelined 8-10 weeks.
Tech coach Seth Greenberg said Raines injured his foot while making a post move in an individual workout Tuesday.
Raines will have surgery today. The 6-foot-9, 220-pound Raines averaged 15.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and four blocks at Petersburg High School this year.
“I’m disappointed for Cadarian,” Greenberg said. “He’s worked extremely hard. He’s a big, physical body. … It just means everyone else is going to have to work that much harder.”
The Hokies open practice on Oct. 16 and open the season against visiting Brown on Nov. 15. They will play five games in November.
How had Raines, one of Tech’s six post players, been figuring in Greenberg’s plans?
“We’re not far enough along to even think about that,” Greenberg said. “The guys are just establishing who’s going to earn playing time.”
