The Wading Girl plays benefit tonight

I picked up this bulletin from myspace today, for what looks like a worthy show.

The music world is unpredictable, and you can be surprised at the people who are around to help you in the middle of nowhere, when you have next to nothing. The Wading Girl, Illbotz and Jesse Ray Carter Trio are playing tonight to help out one of those people.

Here's what the band has to say about it:

Hello All,

2008 has been a strange ride so far. TWG would like to thank all the folks who have come together already this year to help our friends get back on their feet after the fire downtown and now we're asking for more help.

Ronnie Graham, a friend in Asheville NC who we met while traveling with Tim Barry, passed away last week. Ronnie was one of the most generous and hospitable people we have ever encountered on the road. He made what we still consider our best tour meal ever (no offense to all those other great hosts and hostesses we've encountered along the way!). A great person can make a big impression in a short period of time. Now the Graham family really needs help putting their son in the ground. In honor of his memory and in an effort to take care of him as well as he took care of us and so many other traveling artists, we're going to try and collect some money.

So: Martin's Downtown
Tonight! Monday 25th
9:00pm free with donations recommended
The Wading Girl, Illbotz, Jesse Ray Carter Trio, and special guests

TWG leaves for tour on Wed. come see us off, hear some great music, and help us do right by a great man.

  1. Mr. Dickens, This has nothing to do with "The Wading Girl', but I thought this was an easy way to reach you. I don't know if you are aware of it, but there is a wonderful source of FREE music every month for those who enjoy traditional music and bluegrass. I like neither, but after taking a bride from Patrick Springs, I have been exposed to these genres and caught the fever. I am talking about the Patrick County Music Association. The shows are the third Saturday of the month, (usually) and feature mostly local and regional acts, with an occasional national group. The talent pool in that part of the world is deep, and stunningly good. Last Saturday Ronnie Stoneman (from the old TV show Hee Haw) was there. In December, it was the Country Gentlemen, next month the Lost and Found. It is not uncommon to see Sammy Shelor from Lonesome River Band, etc. You get the point. Bring your own chair, and buy food from one of the fund raising groups, such as the Girl Scouts or band boosters. Home made ice cream is hard to refuse.

  2. Good info, Peter. Thanks for telling me about it. I have to get down that way and check out the music and the home made ice cream!
