Question of the week: Get any good music for a gift?
Did you get anything awesome for a holiday gift? Or crap that you want to return? Did you give music this season? Tell me about it.

Hmm, well I got Evanescence - Fallen from my daughter, AC/DC Back in Black from my son, which he has taken to his room and I haven't seen it since, and Heather's Super Special Festivus mixed CD from my friend Dayne. I have also been burning tunes into my new mp3 player. Maybe a friend at work will let me borrow some good Blues CDs or something equally cool to put on it. Ya never know!

Coincidentally, after making a jab at myself for not owning an iPod in our last review... I received an iPod. Not sure how I lived without the damn thing. I also received the vinyl Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy. Just wait... I have comments aplenty regarding that one.

I got a mandolin from my parents. Never messed with one much before, other than plinking around with them at other people's houses here and there.
Ought to be interesting to see what I can produce.
And got a Presonus Audiobox for the Garageband software I also got earlier this year. So now I'm going to start the long, eventually rewarding process of learning home recording.
Also, gave my wife a trumpet.
That might've landed some guys in the doghouse, but she actually used to play years ago and has long lamented her mom selling it when she went off to college, so it was a good gift.

Blues music CDs? Who at work would have those, Heather?
Brooks, I've gotta hear what you think of "Chinese Democracy."
Dylan, now you can multi-track mandolin parts for your next project. How about a husband-wife mandolin-trumpet duo. There's the type of act you never hear about.

With good reason!!
However, great idea for a new torture/interrogation method!
But I am thinking of adding some pickups, a whammy bar, and a leather studded guitar strap onto the mandolin before plugging it into distortion and wah pedals.
Think Spinal Tap's 'Stonehenge' era.
I kid, I kid....

I was talking earlier with a friend who just had some ankle surgery and is rehabbing it now. She suggested her physical therapy would be a good interrogation/torture method, too.
So, in one corner of the room, you have the physical therapist, and in the other corner, the mandolin-trumpet duo.
I'm imagining the crunch of wood, post-Floyd Rose dive-bomb.

Sadly, I did not receive any music this year but I am happy to report that I did get new/used instruments. I got a drum kit and a keyboard, watch out Roanoke!

"MILES FROM INDIA"
2 disc set (but apparently it is available as a THREE LP set with a nice booklet, maybe have Plan9 order it for you...). Produced by Bob Belden, (he worked on the Miles Davis reissues) an East/West of Jazz and Indian musicians reinterpret Miles Davis tunes. Includes Miles alum...Ron Carter, Chick Corea, Pete Cosey, John McLaughlin, Marcus Miller, Mike Stern & Lenny White among others.
...still waiting on the Genesis 1970-1975 boxed set...
