  1. Did you see The Thermals??
One of my favorite bands these days.Heard via another website that they killed at SXSW.
Would have loved to have seen them!

What was the J.Mascis band like?

  2. nah, I didn't get to check the Thermals. Honestly, SXSW is such a cluster-eff, plus the fact that I refuse to buy a $150+ wristband or $1000+ badge that I ended up mostly walking around and looking for flyers or checking venue posts for bands that seemed cool. Some of this was planned by looking online for free parties, day shows, non-sxsw showcases, but with that you also have to fight the whole "capacity" problem - where thousands of others are looking for the good shows just like you and it ends up being a huge line and a one-in-one-out fire code deal. also, you have to take into account all the free booze that is given out tends to cloud the memories - this is a list of about 1/3 to 1/2 of the bands that I actually saw and remembered seeing (or the names of the bands).

the J.Mascis band was actually just him along side of the band Earthless - a 70's influenced stoner rock group from California. He was in town to play a for real SXSW showcase with Dinosaur Jr. and Witch (two of his more well known bands), and I think he just jammed with Earthless because they are friends.

If anyone wants to visit Austin for SXSW, don't feel like you have to buy a wristband or spend a ton of money to have a blast - honestly, I spent money on beer and that was about it.
