We're starting a band/musician database at roanoke.com

I'm psyched to get this thing rolling, but I need your ideas to help make it rock.

We're going to base it on the local artists database that we already have in effect at http://rtstories.com/artmuseum/local_artist_search. Here's an example of an artist's page -- http://rtstories.com/artmuseum/local_artist_search?appSession=109108587222881.

Of course, we're going to rejigger it to make sense for bands/musicians.

So, tell me what you think we should include for each band, and what genres we should include. Thinking broad brush, I want acts to be able to put a photo, upcoming show dates, links to audio/video and social networking pages. Genres would be rock, bluegrass, old-time, country, jazz, blues, etc., with subgenres included. If you're a band looking for players, you can add that. If you're a player looking for a gig, you canĀ  add that.

So fire away. Let's make this thing kick some big behind.

  3. Tad,

I think it would be good to have menus like a forum such as:

    1) PERFORMANCE
    1a) Bands searching for Musicians
    2a) Musicians searching for Bands

    2) STUDIO/COMPOSITION
    2a) Studio Musicians Available
    2b) Studio Musicians Needed
    2b) Writing/Composition Requests

(under each of these the artist can list their requirements from a text box entry listed on their profile and linked by using the check boxes below).

In each player or band's profile, have a series of check boxes that link to these categories so their names would show up under each section such as:

    Example:
    Shane Hager
    Guitar Player
    Vocalist

    Genre - (Select drop menu)
Genre 2 - (Select drop menu)
Genre 3 - (Select drop menu)

Looking for a band (check here)
Band looking for players (check here)
Available for Studio work (check here)
Needs players for studio work (check here)
    Needs Writing/Composition Assistance (check here)
Can assist with Writing/Composition (check here)

*(Check here) boxes would link back and that profile would show under the main categories - this would help when ya need studio personnel, but not touring personnel for example.

    Just my initial thoughts.
    Thanks - Shane

  4. Good move here, Tad. I'd be inclined to have the artists name their genre(s), as many cover more ground than just one. Also consider those who do solo and group acts and how they would represent each. Thanks for what you do, man!
