Here's what's up with Roanoke Civic Center naming rights

Working on a story for tomorrow's paper and thought I'd post some paragraphs here ...

Roanoke Civic Center’s management company and a local advertising and sponsorship agency could put a lot of new advertisements on, in and around the civic center — and even give the venue a new name.

Matt Ramsey show tonight is $5

CORRECTION: Cover charge is $5 for the Matt Ramsey show tonight at Awful Arthur's. Due to incorrect information posted at Awful's MySpace.com page, the charge was listed incorrectly on today's Top Tickets page.

The corrected Top Tickets page is here. And my lord, there's a lot going on.

Deb Callahan at Blue 5 Restaurant on Saturday night

The Roanoke Times Music poll -- with concerts following

Awesomeness by Grant Jedlinsky | The Roanoke Times

Awesomeness by Grant Jedlinsky | The Roanoke Times

If you haven't already been to the poll, here's your link -- http://www.roanoke.com/wb/xp-187369

This is the first year I've been responsible for the music poll, and here is a two-item list of the mistakes I made. (But don't worry, cutNscratch followers, it's all going to be fine.)

1. About the concerts: After this story went to press yesterday, we decided to make the shows happen on Jan. 9 and Jan. 10.

The paper says the shows are on Jan. 10.

Instead, we're giving you two nights of local music in very cool settings. And those settings are Kirk Avenue Music Hall on the 9th, and Jefferson Center's Recital Hall on the 10th.

2. About the printed ballots: Today's Extra section has two different deadlines. D'Oh! There is only one deadline -- Dec. 22. So get those paper ballots ready and send them in asap.

Here is the correction scheduled to run in tomorrow's paper: The Roanoke Times Music Poll concerts, featuring winners in the favorite local band category, will be Jan. 9 (at Kirk Avenue Music Hall, Roanoke) and Jan. 10 (at Jefferson Center Recital Hall). That information was incomplete in Friday’s Extra section. Also, the deadline for ballots is Dec. 22. There was conflicting date information in the article.

Now go vote.

p.s. I'll try to do better next year.

Left hand? Right hand? ARG!!

I woke up this morning, read my Derek Trucks Band review, and nearly got sick. Had to post a correction:

Derek Trucks, who performed Friday night at Jefferson Center, had a glass slide on his left hand. That fact was incorrect in Saturday’s review of the show.

Jonathan Byrd at Water Heater

Just got word on this show yesterday from Wendy Schuyler of the Water Heater. Jonathan Byrd is playing her spot on Sept. 20 (CORRECTION: Show was originally listed here with the wrong date). Showtime is 7 p.m. Cover charge is $15. It's absolutely worth it. Check out some tunage on Byrd's myspace page -- http://www.myspace.com/jonathanbyrd.

Correction to band list for Brent Clinevell benefit

Andy Hollander Band, Breeze Brothers, Seven Mile Ford, Bad Dog, Crobar Cane, Leggz Diamond, The Kings, The Original Kings, Gasoline Alley, Cimmaron and The Worx are playing Sunday’s benefit for Brent Clinevell at Greystone Tavern, Salem. Some of the bands listed in Thursday’s print edition of Inside Out were unable to play the show. See the correct listings and more show details at roanoke.com/entertainment/insideout/music/wb/175504.
