That guy from Orlando slams us again!
The mug at the left is Wayne Deel. He's a Roanoke native, longtime Roanoke Valley resident and former photo editor of The Roanoke Times. He left the 'Noke a few years ago for the dizzying world of Disney known as Orlando, Fla.
Lots of comments on this blog criticized Deel for renaming Roanoke "Hillbilly, Va." As evidence, he cited Katherine Gwaltney's arrest by Roanoke police officer Reinhold "Bill" Lucas.
Well, he's at it again folks, with a longer broadside. His most recent missive is below:
Hello from Orlando again.
As I said this incident gave Roanoke a black eye throughout the nation, just as Larry said: “a black mark on the face of Roanoke”.
Also, Argis wrote that this incident made Roanoke look like an “overgrown hick town,” close to what I said about hillbillies.
And for Jerry, Walker, Wanda and Amber, Roanoke is my hometown and I love the Roanoke Valley like I love my two sons.
But, Roanoke is a one-horse town and it always will be. We had that one horse and Billy Lucas was assigned to patrol the market area with that horse and he failed at that many times. Read more »
