Does this float your boat?

rootbeervodka.jpg

Those crazy people who come up with crazy vodka flavors are at it again.

First it was pepper, then pear, then grape, then blueberry. Now we've got root beer vodka.
The possibilities would at first appear to be quite limited. You could mix it with...well, root beer, I suppose.

Or, as the Three Olives company suggests, you could fix yourself a spiked root beer float.

Okay, that's about all I can think of to do with root beer-flavored vodka, except perhaps drink it straight up.

Maybe the possibilities ARE quite limited.

Does this sound tasty to anyone? Anyone able to think of another cocktail that could be made with this bizarre flavor?

  1. Oh yuk! My husband would consider flavored vodka to be gross to begin with but this is beyond gross.

I am a "beer drinker" and love different types of beers. I would never drink this. Blah!!

  2. I'm thinking something with chocolate. But you're right, it does seem limited. I hope it tastes good by itself.

  3. I think that Three Olives is simply trying to expand its shelf space. Pepper vodka is great for Bloody Marys. Vanilla vodka chilled is a nice sipping drink.

  4. A spiked root beer float doesn't sound half bad!

  5. I hadn't heard about root beer flavored vodka, but I do like the blueberry flavor in a martini!

While in Charleston, I ordered a drink that was made with sweet tea flavored vodka. The drink was basically an Arnold Palmer, made with sweet tea flavored vodka and lemonade. Delicious!

  6. Autumn, I also tried the sweet tea vodka when I was in Charleston! It's all the rage there. We met a liquor store owner at one bar and had a long conversation about it. He bought my husband and me shots of the stuff, which they shook up with ice and a little lemon juice. I loved it; Howard...not so much. But the guy told us the company that makes it, Firefly, which is located in S.C., is having a hard time meeting demand for it. So it is only available in a few states, not including Virginia. I have my sister on the lookout for a bottle because she lives in Spartanburg.
I also like blueberry vodka. It is so strongly flavored that all you have to do is drink it chilled or mix it with a little club soda or lemon-lime soda.

  7. I agree w/ Amy Hanek...sounds like yuk! But I would try it. I've had several flavors of vodka, including a fairly new flavor, pomegranate. Which is good! I also like raspberry flavored vodka. At the bar we frequent they make a drink they call "the jam." It's watermelon flavored vodka, (any flavored vodka can be used - root beer?)Red Bull, and a splash of cranberry. It's a pretty tasty and refreshing drink. Would probably be good w/ the iced tea vodka, too!

  8. I love the weird flavored vodkas so I would definitely try this one. I want to add to the chorus of folks who love blueberry vodka and suggest trying it in a "Blueberry Muffin," which is simply blueberry vodka mixed with cream soda. Delicious, and very refreshing for summertime!
