Test your foodie smarts!

Are you "amused?" There's one bad hint.

Are you "amused?" There's one bad hint.

This word quiz was published the other day in the Kansas City Star. It's based on culinary terms that get tossed around on Top Chef. I had so much fun doing it that I pulled it off the wire to share with you guys. I'm going to be a trickster and wait to publish the answers tomorrow. I trust no one to cheat! And if you are serious about the quiz, you may not want to read comments on this post until you have done it. Some of them may give certain answers away.

  1. Oooh, I missed 6 of them. I got aioli and remoulade mixed up. I had never heard of halloumi or cavolo nero. Ceviche and carpaccio also confused me. I suppose 20 out of 26 isn't bad! I only knew geoduck from watching Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern eat it on Travel Channel. I have to say, they are ugly!

  2. I missed a few myself. I'll share the details of what I missed tomorrow. There is definitely a little bit of trickery afoot in the quiz.

  3. OK, that was fun. I got down to two that I was unsure of - the same two that Lori had not heard of, which makes me feel better!

Can't wait to see how I did.

  4. I got 21 of 26, but after really looking at the list, I think I figured out the trick (but I'm not spilling the beans, pun intended)... and I guessed right at the last few I didn't know.

  5. I got 21 right. I mixed up aioli and remoulade too and 2 others. Like Lori, I knew Geoduck from seeing it on Bourdain's show. I've seen them on Iron Chef too. They are quite a sight. :-)

  6. We took the coworker challenge here and are anxiously awaiting the answers tomorrow to see who wins! I feel quite sure that it won't be me.

  7. A little off the subject but because a couple of you mentioned it.... I just finished reading Anthony Bourdain's book "Nasty Bits" and found it to be very entertaining and interesting! I was lucky enough to find a seemingly new paperback copy at Goodwill but your local library may carry it. Just wanted to share....

Now, to wait and see the results of the quiz tomorrow!

  8. I loved that book Angela. I made a copy of his little rant about junk food, and have it over my desk at work. The part that says, "Do you really need those chips?" Ha Ha
