Best German restaurants

We've talked a little bit about German restaurants before on this blog. Today, my colleague, Doug Doughty, drew my attention to a Web site where you can vote for your favorite German restaurant in America. Think we don't have any German restaurants around here? Well, you would be forgetting about The Rhein River Inn in Buchanan!

The Rhein River Inn is on the list of restaurants for which you can vote, so if it's one of your favorites, be sure to give them the support. The closest German restaurant to Roanoke, besides Rhein River, is Edelweiss in Staunton. It's on the list, as well.

  1. Don't forget the Bavarian Chef, north of Charlottesville. Sure, it's a bit of a haul from Roanoke, but it's a really nice high-end German restaurant.

  2. I ate at the Rhein River Inn for New Year's Eve and it was fantastic. We keep talking about needing to go back soon, but sometimes those restaurants up in Buchanan & points north can slip the mind!

  3. Thought about the Bavarian Inn while I was up that way recently, but they only do dinner and I was in the area at lunch. I ate at a very good German restaurant several years ago in Philly that was near my hotel, but the name escapes me.

  4. OK - I'm disappointed that my favorite is not on the list but that may be because it is considered Austrian and not technically German. Whatever, the food is GREAT! Another bummer is that none of the restaurants listed for my state are anywhere near me. That's okay, I had real German food in Germany and if I ever get the chance to go back I'll do it in a heartbeat!
