Another Tech QB bites dust ...

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Another Virginia Tech quarterback is gone for the day with a left ankle injury.

Sean Glennon, who replaced Tyrod Taylor on the Hokies' second snap of the game, was sent to the sideline when was sacked by FSU linebacker Dekoda Watson with 5:57 left in the third quarter. Glennon was on the ground writhing in pain for about 90 seconds before he was helped to the Tech bench.

Taylor was knocked out of the contest with a similar injury on the game's first offensive play.

Fifth-year senior Cory Holt took over the Tech offense with the loss of the top two quarterbacks. Glennon's injury occurred on Tech's next series after FSU took a 17-13 lead on Dustin Ponder's 6-yard touchdown pass to Taiwan Easterling with 6:05 left in the third quarter.

UVa-GT after three quarters

Virginia's second fumble recovery of the third quarter has enabled the Cavaliers to hang onto a 17-14 lead.

UVa had taken the lead on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Marc Verica to Maurice Covington following the first Yellow Jackets fumble.

UVa-GT at the half

Turnovers have been the difference at Bobby Dodd Stadium, where Virginia has outgained Georgia Tech 225-146 and has had the ball for 18:45 but trails 14-10 at the half.

UVa quarterback Marc Verica is 19-of-28 for 162 yards but has been intercepted twice. Georgia Tech needed only two plays to go 45 yards for the touchdown that put the Yellow Jackets ahead 14-3 in the second quarter.

Jonathan Dwyer's 3-yard touchdown run was preceded by a 42-yard pass from Josh Nesbitt to Demariyus Thomas, one of two Nesbitt completions on four first-half attempts.

Taylor injures left ankle, out of game

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor lasted all of one play in Saturday's game at Florida State.

Taylor suffered an injury to his left ankle on the Hokies' first snap when he rolled to his right and was pulled down by Seminoles Toddrick Verdell from behind. Verdell rolled up on Taylor's ankle on the play. Read more »

UVa-GT second quarter

Marc Verica has thrown a 14-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Ogletree with 11:17 remaining in the second quarter, but UVa trails 14-10.

Virginia took the opening kickoff and drove 53 yards for a Yannick Reyering 25-yard field goal, but the Yellow Jackets scored touchdowns on their next two possessions, the second after a Morgan Burnett interception after Verica threw into triple coverage.

UVa is without two injured defensive starters, linebacker Antonio Appleby and nose tackle Nick Jenkins.

UVa-GT pre-game

Virginia inside linebacker Antonio Appleby took part in pre-game warm-ups but there's still no word on his starting status.

Appleby, injured on the first series last week against North Carolina, was listed as doubtful (75-percent chance of not playing) on UVa's injury report Thursday. He has a sprained ankle.

Place-kicker Yannick Reyering, who was not in uniform last week, also took part in pre-game warmups. Reyering has a knee injury.

25-percent chance Appleby will play

Antonio Appleby's streak of 34 consecutive starts will be in jeopardy as Virginia's football team travels to Georgia Tech for a 3:30 p.m. game Saturday.

Appleby, a senior outside linebacker, was listed as doubtful (75-percent chance he will not play) on the UVa injury report released Thursday night.
