UVa beats Brown

CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Virginia held Brown to 23.3-percent shooting from the field in the second half and pulled away for a 74-50 on a night when star freshman Sylven Landesberg did not score from the field.

Landesberg, who has been fighting a cold, made all four of his free throws but was 0-for-6 from the field. Sophomore Mike Scott had 15 points for his fifth double-double of the season and redshirt freshman Sammy Zeglinski had 14 points Tuesday for the Cavaliers (7-5).

Brown dropped to 5-8.

  1. Another game that leaves me scratching my head afterward. Why did DL not let Diane play his way out of his slump? Why so many substitutions during the game? Why does Baker continue to get so many minutes? Why does DL dress like a gangster? Why can't DL show some school spirit and wear something orange? Why not make games like Brown general admission? Why is bottled water $3.50? Why do I continue to show up for these games?

  2. "Why does DL dress like a gangster?" A better question might be: "Why do high school and college basketball players look like members of gangs or prison inmates?"

I think the answer is like something from the 1970's: "If the music's too loud, then you're too old." I'm in my 40's, and I don't understand why today's basketball players look the way they do, with tatoos and wearing their shorts down so low: they're just fads. And I'm too old.
