Cavs make it two in a row
CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Virginia held Virginia Tech to 36.7-percent shooting from the field and beat the Hokies for the first time in four games, 75-61, at John Paul Jones Arena.
Freshman Sylven Landesberg had 19 points, nine rebounds and six assists to lead the Cavaliers, who have won two games in a row after dropping eight straight. Junior Jamil Tucker had 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench for UVa (9-13 overall, 3-8 ACC).
The Hokies (16-9 overall, 6-5 ACC) got 21 points from senior A.D. Vassallo, but sophomore guard Malcolm Delaney was 3-for-13 and missed all five of his 3-point attempts on a 3-for-13 night.

Virginia has won 2 in-a-row! Good for Leitao.
It's hard for me to believe that Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt
will be back next year! They're
1-11 in the ACC. Yeah, he's getting the best prospect
in the country, Derrick Favors. But it's likely that Favors
will be gone after one year.

Well, so much for the worst team in modern Virginia history. I won't lie - a part of me is a teensie bit disappointed. But if this is actually a sign of future improvement, bring it on.

By the way, did Landesberg play some point guard like he did against Clemson? I couldn't get the game down here in N.C. ...

One thing I notice from the post game comments is that Greenberg didn't once say anything good about Virginia. In fact he never does when Tech loses. With Greenberg it's always why we lost not why the other team won. He needs to learn from the other coaches in the ACC if he wants to be respected. Take a look at Duke and Carolina. After UNC beat Duke, Coach K was very quick to point out some of the outstanding performances by the UNC players. When Carolina lost to BC and Wake, Roy was very quick to say positive things about the opponents. I am a UNC fan and it's not an anti VT thing, in fact I like Greenberg and I think he is a good coach who gets the most out of his players. Even Frank Beamer will say positive things about the opponents when he gets beat. I appreciate that Greenberg is a competitor but without the respect from the other coaches, Tech will never get the benefit of the doubt on selection Sunday.

Ron, The game was broadcast in NC. I'm in the Wilmington area and found it by "channel flipping" as it was not listed on any guides. It was on Ch.20,WMYV, Charter network.

Good for the players. I'm happy that they get to experience victory again. I'm just concerned that Leitao may have saved his job this week. Not good news for the long range future of UVa basketball.

I have DirecTV and I live near Asheville. Not on here, outside of ESPN Gameplan.

Ron,
Landesberg is a situational point guard. He gets the ball at the end of the shot clock, end of a half, need to score, kill the clock. He's always going to get a bigger defender who's less likely to take it away from him.

Thanks, Doug. Putting him at point really put Clemson on its heels and seemed to keep the offense, shall we say, focused when things got tight. I wondered if the same thing was the case against Tech.
I wanted to give Coach Leitao credit for making a smart move, since I can't recall Sylven playing nearly that much point in the other games I've watched.
Guess I'll find out today against State. That one is on TV here.
