One thing I'll say for Groh is that UVa hasn't committed any NCAA violations since he's been at UVa.
Well, if I was Phillip Sims, I would not have picked UVa, based
on UVa's passing game the past few years. I would not have assumed that
anything is going to be different in Charlottesville with UVa's
offense until it was proven to me, you know? However, Sims hasn't signed with
Alabama yet, and if the new UVa offense throws the ball 40 times-a-game,
who knows? Maybe he'll change his mind about going to Alabama.

Heck, Sims was the No. 1-ranked quarterback on the rivals.com top 100 list that was updated this week, although he was only 58th overall.
You’d have to say there’s some irony there: Alabama getting a commitment from a Virginian and Virginia recruiting an Alabaman. Who was the last UVa player from Alabama, walk-on fullback Steve Morse in 1984?
If I’m remembering correctly, head coach Al Groh told me recently that there were some uncommitted junior quarterbacks in the state who have caught his eye.
Jake McGee, a 6-5, 210-pound left-hander from Collegiate in Richmond, passed for 30 touchdowns as a junior. So far, Virginia has not made a big push for McGee but the Cavaliers don’t have to be reminded about the last Collegiate QB they turned down."

I've seen Jake McGee play basketball for Collegiate. He could play Division 1 basketball for many universities! The problem with a Division 1-A school offering him a football scholarship is that I don't think there's a second position he could play in college if playing quarterback didn't work out. He looks about 6-5 210. He doesn't have the body to convert to playing tight end at the Division 1-A level, and he is too tall to play defensive back. It's unknown if he could play wide receiver at the
Division 1-A level: however, stranger things have happened.
My feeling is that he's at least as good a Division 1-A (Football Bowl Subdivision) quarterback prospect as Ross Metheney is.
