Doughty surprised with anniversary party
Roanoke Times assistant sports editor and University of Virginia beat writer Doug Doughty celebrated his 35th anniversary with the newspaper on July 15. Here's a brief tribute to Doug, who was the man of honor at a surprise reception this week.

Having grown up in Southwestern Va.and being a rabid UVA fan in the 70's , the news from C-ville was hard to come by ..When DD arrived on the scene , between he and Bill King at WDBJ7 , Orrie felt like he was in the loop and part of the Hoos Pipeline . Thanks for the memories DD , you were like a " Journalistic God ." Always informative and entertaining but most importantly to Orrie, you always were and still to this day , " Tell it like is." I wish you nothing but continued success. Even pulling for you to break that personal BM record . Maybe try a colonsocopy prep to reach that milestone in your career . Hopefully , the restroom will be much closer .

Doug, What's up with those baggy pants you were holding out in that old black and white photo? You can tell that was long before you started lunching at the Angelos all you can stand Mexican meat shop. Just what are the stats on the cholesterol in one of those four pound burritos? Congrats on this milestone in your career.

The Roanoke Times (objectively) covers UVa football and men's basketball and their instate and out-of-state recruiting better than any newspaper in the state. http://blogs.roanoke.com/rtblogs/insiders/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Congratulation Doug,
35 years what a milestone! I certainly enjoyed the anecdotes from your friends, family & co-workers both past & present. We are fortunate to have you on the staff of the Roanoke Times & hope you'll be writing about UVA sports for many years to come, keep up the good work.

Great tribute to DD. Covers the 'Hoos fairly and I loved the Freckles story. RT has set a precedent now. Can't wait to see the tribute for Nappy in a few years. It may be a little shorter but can't wait to see some of the pictures from the NHS days.
