Inquired about Jameel Sewell
I read on one of the UVa-related boards that a football promo with Jameel Sewell had been pulled off the virginiasportstv.com.
It made for an interesting twist. Sewell missed the 2008 season while on academic suspension and people were wondering if his difficulties had re-occurred. So, I put in a call.
My contact indicated that the promotional spots are rotated and that the absence of the Sewell promo has no special significance. Moreover, Sewell is enrolled in summer school.
That's not to say that Sewell -- and others, presumably -- must complete summer school satisfactorily to be eligible. However, that was as much of an issue in June as it is now.

Well it is getting that time of year for the UVA faithful to start having something to worry about .I mean it has become routine with this program .Never a dull momemt during Big Al's tenure .The Question is Mr. Doughty ....What will it take to keep the big guy around this time ?

A winning season or possibly a 6-6 season with a win over VT.

Doug,
Given that this is Casteen's last year, and he's not going to want to be involved in another coaching search on his "victory lap" year, I have a hard time seeing Al let go unless he does a LOT worse than 5-7. I think there's a chance he's gone this fall if he goes 3-8 or worse, but barring that he's probably safe for another year of mediocre UVA football.

Doug, Orrie has asked the million dollar question and you've given a fair answer for predicting AG's survival minimums. As minimums they are on the borderline and so I think at those results, "winning season" or "6-6 w/ a win over VT", certain scenarios have to be considered.
For example if Uva is 7-3, and then finishes the season consecutively shellacked by Clemson, VT, and a MAC outfit in front of 1200 Wahoos in Mobile, I think thats a 7-6 "winning season" AG can't survive. What if Uva beats VT to finish 6-6, and makes your minimum, only to lose in a bowl and finish 6-7? Now thats no longer meeting your minimum of a "winning season".
My answer: 8+ wins or <6 wins = no discussion. At 6 or 7 wins it depends on how the final outcome is achieved and would have to consider late season momentum, VT outcome, and bowl game.
Agree?

Walt,
I think this is a pretty good assessment on your part.
I think Scott Stadium attendance will be worth watching, as well.
Crowds weren't too bad last year but if attendance were to dip into the 40,000s, that would be an issue.

Doug
I think everybody knows 8+,7+, or even 6 and 6 would save AG"s job for another season. We also know that Mike G. had to go. With the new O/C and the talent that UVA has they may surprise some of the other teams in the ACC. My question is with Casteen leaving will this change the recruiting guidlines for student athletes. Also enjoy your spot on Thursday with Gerg Roberts.
