VT should not be in the top 25, this loss is on the coaches, they
did not have the team ready to play. Bud Foster does not show
up two or three time a year. He gave up over three hundred
rushing yards with his "run stop" defense, give me a break!

Where is V T all i see in the Roanoke Times is VT . You have three tech players in a car Who is driving ? The Sheriff.
Comment by William D Horton — October 18, 2009 @ 8:12 pm
Think 14 is about right for the Hokies but also agree this loss is on the Coaches---both sides of the ball. Even CPJ was quoted as saying VT Never changed their defensive scheme, even in the second half. Offensively we should have won this game in the first half but offense was subjected to terrible play calling. Kudos to Stiney again for holding back all the talent he has this year.

Doug do you even watch college football? You can't tell it by this ballot!!!!
Comment by Darrell Hodges — October 19, 2009 @ 5:43 pm
Really? I agree with VT's ranking but are you seriously putting UF and Texas in front of Alabama? Do you even watch the games or are you like everyone else in the AP poll and let your assistant read about the games and vote?
Comment by Anthony — October 19, 2009 @ 6:50 pm
This loss is on the coaches. Can Beamer ever lead the Hokies to a nantional champship? The answer to the question is no because in the past what is his record against top teams? I think it is probably dismal.
Lets win some of these game that control the national championship aspirations. This year for example two defeats to teams which if the Hokies had won would be in the middle of the battle for the nation championship. Now we have to be lucky to play for the ACC championship. Great coaching Beamer in having your teams ready to battle for a national championship when you can not win the ACC coastal division.
Comment by Hokie Fan — October 20, 2009 @ 9:07 am
Boy, the hooville whiners are coming out of the woodwork !! When was the last time the hoos fielded a team to compete against the Hokies ?????
Comment by Tony in Roanoke — October 20, 2009 @ 9:56 am
Beamer should be ashamed. His comments after the game were, well, Aw shucks, we'll be all right, we are only half way thru the season. That is NOT what Hokie fans want to hear. He should have said, We apologize to our fans. We didn't play well. We had an opportunity to get into the National Championship mix and we didn't execute. We will try and salvage what's left of our season.
The ACC championship takes care of itself if your goal is to play in the National Championship game. Aw shucks, Frank.
Comment by Joe — October 20, 2009 @ 12:36 pm
Beamer's strong defense of his coaches and coordinators was an admirable trait when he was still building the program and working on stabilizing the staff so as to build it up. Now, when there is clearly a coaching problem in getting the players to perform to their fullest, or simply to show up every week...that has become a major fault. Until the entire football program is revamped in terms of who runs the show, these problems will always happen and VT will always be a solid step behind the upper echelon of programs like USC, Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, texas, and others. Yes, we may always have a good shot at the ACC title, and we may win 10 games a year for several more years, but we will never move beyond this level without some changes. VT has plateaued, and has not really shown any long-term, sustained improvements one would have expected after the championship game run of 99-00.

I definitely agree with Tony about the UVA fans coming out of the woodwork. I guess UVA fans feel that since they have nothing to cheer for in Charlottesville they might as well try to bring down their rival as well. Don't worry Wahoos while you all are sitting at home after November 28 with a losing record (again) you can watch the Hokies play in another bowl game.
Comment by Brent — October 20, 2009 @ 4:05 pm
Will someone please write an expanation of the ref in the Vt vs Gt game moving the ball forward and giving GT a first down after it had been spotted 3 to 4" inches short of a GT first down. I've watched football for a long time and never have I seen such a referee gaff. The announcers couldn't believe it and noone I have spoken to about it could believe it either. Yet, the media has been mum on the subject. That ref should be banned from the ACC games hereafter.
Comment by Gerry — October 20, 2009 @ 5:42 pm
I'm a Miami Hurricane fan and I have to say this has been the craziest year in the Coastal Division. If Miami wants to go to the ACC Championship it lies in there hands. I have to say about Doug's poll Alabama should be Number 1 and ND should not be ranked at all. He needs to watch more College Football. Also Tech or as I call them Chokies they need a miracle to win the Costal Division.
Comment by Ryan Mooney — October 21, 2009 @ 12:04 am
Whoever it was that said Bama - #1; ND - outta here was right on!
A lot of you other clowns were not here during the previous years (Before Frank) when Hokie fans would have sold their grandmothers for 10-2! A little slack please. I too, am disappointed, but man up and press on!
Realistically, we probably would have been like Auburn a few years back, all dressed up with no place to go!
And it's not like we lost to Washington (USC) or Purdue (OSU) or William & Mary (William was sick) and Richmond (you know 'Hoo).
So, make the best of what you have!
Comment by SKEPTICAL OBSERVER — October 21, 2009 @ 6:39 am
Brent and Tony,
The only people I see posting are a bunch of unhappy Hokies. In case you have not checked the standings lately, the Wahoos are in first place so your comment of not having much to cheer about makes little sense. Sometimes I get the feeling that a Wahoo win hurts Hokies more than a Hokie loss. If you fall in that bucket you are just a sick dude.
Comment by Joe — October 21, 2009 @ 8:17 am
I for one, will be a Hokie cheering for the Hoo's to beat GT. That would be great for us.
Comment by Justafan — October 21, 2009 @ 10:18 am
hey, Joe, look at the records for the past 10 years, the hoos are not even close to being at the Hokies level !!! But, you can bet all the hoos will proclaim they have passed the Hokies whenever (?) they finally win a rival game with us. By the way, has rowing season started ?????
Comment by Tony in Roanoke — October 21, 2009 @ 1:24 pm
I am tired of hearing all the crap about UVA. It seems like we are two different states here. Uva and Va. Tech are in the same state people. And unless we are playing against each other, we should try to help one another. Personally, I am a UVA fan and always will be. Itdoesnt matter if they will or lose,I will always be a loyal UVA fan, to the end. I can remember when Va. Tech was awful. So things do change. Quit crying everyone, pick your team and stick to them, but quit putting down the teams in Virginia.
Comment by Michael — October 21, 2009 @ 2:05 pm
Joe,
If you want to look at the standings then we will do that. What is your record and what is ours. Something even better than that is here you are talking about standings and you put that comment in a "Top 25" article. When was the last time UVA was in the top 25?
While we are talking about rankings where do you think UVA ranks in the state of Virginia? I will be honest and say they are a Top 5 team in the state, but definitely behind VT, William and Mary, Richmond, and probably JMU. I think the JMU game would be a close one though.
Like I said previously have fun watching the Hokies play in another bowl game since your team will have nothing else to do after November 28.
No hard feelings Joe but where do you think UVA football ranks in the State of Virginia. I honestly have to put the Wahoos at #5.
Comment by Brent — October 21, 2009 @ 2:28 pm
Brent,
I feel pretty confident about the November 28th matchup. Talk to me then.

Hey Tony In Roanoke: Last year if I remember correctly. If it wasn't for Vic Hall sitting on the pine that last series.... UVA could have beaten the Chokies!!
Comment by Dan — October 22, 2009 @ 3:19 am
Joe,
This is my last question since you will not answer the others. Do you feel as confident as you did when William and Mary came to town?
Comment by Brent — October 22, 2009 @ 11:54 am
"Last year if I remember correctly. If it wasn't for Vic Hall sitting on the pine that last series.... UVA could have beaten the Chokies!!"
Dan, you've got to be kidding? The woulda, coulda, shoulda game. That's sad even for the Hoos. What if, after the National Championship game in 2000, Hokie fans would have said, "Well, if Bobby Bowden had suspended all of the players involved in the Dillard's scandel, we could have won".
Sounds pretty lame doesn't it?? We'll find out on Nov. 28 who gets the win. Most Hokies fans want the Hoos to win a couple more games so Al Groh can keep his job. We love Al.

HEY ALL YOU SO CALLED HOKIE FANS.DID YOU EVER STOP AND THING JUST BECAUSE YOU LOSE A GAME IT DOESN'T NECESSARY MEAN YOU NOT A GOOD BALL TEAM.BUT ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS RUNING DOWN A MAN OF HONOR,A GREAT COACH WHO CARES ABOUT HIS STAFF,PLAYERS,AND FANS.NOW SOON WE FORGET *****ORANGE BOWL***** BUT ALL YOU CAN THINK ABOUT IS WELL I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE THINK ABOUT. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE WAY THE GAME IS PLAYED TURN IT OFF AND THAT WAY YOU MAY LEARN MORE BY READING THE PAPER--WELL THAT IS IF YOU CAN READ.THE HOKIES WILL BE JUST FINE.HARDHIT NASHVILLE TENN
Comment by Pat Sparks — October 22, 2009 @ 4:31 pm
pat sparks, i can not understand clearly what you are saying but if it is for all of hokienation to be satisfied with losses to inferior teams when the pieces are there in a weak conference to make it to the bcs title game, then you are majorly wrong. beamer and his coaches get paid millions while the unemployment rate is around 10 percent. at the very least, they should be able to beat inferior teams away from lane stadium. sure there are only a few and sometimes no undefeated teams each year, but lets face it, the acc has become about as competitive a league as the mwc, wac some would say, and to have talent that goes through the program such as royal, taylor, adibi, williams evans, and our corners every year and not be able to win games against lesser opponents is mind boggling!
Comment by louisianahokie — October 23, 2009 @ 7:59 am
I don't think I would call Ga. Tech an inferior team. I'd say the only team the Hokies have played this year that could be considered inferior would be Marshall. Hokienation needs to be more concerned about the next opponent than the last opponent.
