Groh on possible coaching change
In advance of Al Groh's weekly Sunday teleconference, I'd been thinking all day about a way to ask Groh about his coaching future in a fashion that would elicit a response.
Here's what I came up with: "What would you say to the people who are calling for a coaching change?"
After about a four-second pause, Groh responded, "I don't have anything to say."
He paused for another 4-5 seconds and then added, "I know a lot more about the situation than probably anybody. Maybe some day I'll say what that is."
Fortunately, he didn't snap at me and didn't hesitate to answer any of my subsequent questions, but there was a cryptic tone to his answer.
What does he know about the situation that the rest of us don't? I can't wait to find out.

at least u had the guts to ask him, wussys like jerry ratcliffe would never come close to asking a question like that

Let's consult the crystal ball......If UVA beats VT he stays else he goes.

Doug: "What would you say to the people who are calling for a coaching change?"
Groh: "Why would they get rid of Frank?"

Everyone keeps harping on Groh's performance. It's not acceptable, nor is Littlepaige's. Littlepaige is as much reponsible for the failures in UVa football as Groh. Handcuff them together and lead them out of C'ville ASAP. Both have been there TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long!!!

I think that's a very big hint that there's already a deal in place that results in AG not being football coach after this season. The only thing we don't know if that means that he'll be booted up into Athletic Dept administration, or if he'll gracefully retire.

I hear that future coaching candidates are skeptical of a new president that has not been decided on. I think Groh cares too much for The University to continue. He knows where the fork is!!

Dr. Feelgood is correct. Al knows he is done and I am sure an exit plan has been discussed with the administration. I think it is time for the fans, the media and everyone else to shift from the get Al fired mode to the show a little respect for a dedicated professional that has reached the end of his career mode. Trying to make Al's last days as difficult as possible serves no purpose and only makes those doing it look like middle school bullies.

The issue is what happens to Poindexter at the switch. Whether he's "the future" of the program or not, if the next hire isn't done right, Poindexter may move on. He loves his alma mater, but a new organization will sever ties, I think. And that would be a shame.

Theo,
I am sure Poindexter will be around if London is the next coach. Otherwise, I say the chances of him retaining his job are slim.

Uva can't just grab the next guy up. It's not the place for the dun and bradstreet approach either. There has only been one successful era, ever, and that's welsh. His model worked, but needed to be perfected -- not abandoned. Poindexter has the pedigree the program needs. Or it's the carousel for us, for the rest of our viewing lifetimes, in all candor. Poindexter, with Welsh as chief advisor, or watch out.
