"Adopt a Soldier" -- Names/Addresses Available

On 22SEP07, the Roanoke Times printed one of my articles, "Care Packages Connect Soldiers To Home" (http://blogs.roanoke.com/rtblogs/iraq/2008/09/22/care-packages-connect-soldiers-to-home/).  The article explained the value of care packages, suggested ideas for contents, and urged readers to adopt Soldiers on any one of several websites.  At the time, I did not have names and addresses of single Soldiers readily available to distribute.

In the following weeks, I received emails requesting names and addresses directly from me, as some of the websites were not quick to respond.  After much prompting, I worked with the chaplain of the US battalion here to provide me a short list of single Soldiers, who are most likely to appreciate care packages.

I have connected a fair number of readers with Soldiers, but I regretfully acknowledge that I may have missed some of the earlier requests.  If you would like to adopt a Soldier, please contact me.  I still have some names of Soldiers available.

To all the readers across the Roanoke Valley, thank you for your support.

  1. The other day, a Troop Leader of the Girl Scouts of America named Shawnee wrote me, requesting a name to adopt a Soldier. Wow, I can only imagine the smile on that Soldier's face. I sure hope that my little girl sticks with the girl scouts and that she has a Troop Leader like Shawnee.

Thank you, Shawnee, and the half dozen others that have written me: Tory, Steve, Shannon, and Lorian.

  2. All the Soldiers were adopted in time to get Christmas packages to them.
I no longer have any names available. Sorry.
