22DEC08--Eye on the Ball

Americans and Iraqis have at least one thing in common:  the inability to resist a ball in play.  This may be a universal truth.

As soon as we brought a ball out today, a crowd of Iraqi Soldiers formed.  Putting down what they were doing, everyone wanted to show their moves.  All in all, the event made us closer.

Lieutenant Jay Alaniz sets up a corner kick towards the makeshift goal of white concrete barrier on the left.

GOAL! Score: Americans 1 - Iraqis 0

Mostly we just kicked it around in a circle.

  1. Jeremy, que golazo! Good to see that you are keeping up with your futbal skills. Sports are indeed the universal activities that can bring people together. Have you learned the soccer terminology in Arabic yet? Thanks, Cpt. Connaroe--we love your blog!...Patricia Alaniz

  2. Awesome!

Now break out a guitar and see how long it takes one of them to shout, "FREEBIRD!". ;)
