Notes from Iraq

27DEC08--Homemade Explosive (HME) Cache

Today, the Iraqi Army took hundreds of pounds of homemade explosives (HME) off the streets in finding this cache.

When the U.S. ordinance removal team performed a controlled detonation on this HME, the blast shook buildings miles away.

This stuff was made with only one purpose in mind. I feel good knowing that it is off the streets.

  1. Rich,

I feel better knowing it is off the streets too! I am glad to see they (the Iraqis) are out looking for, locating and destroying the cashes. I guess to be correct we performed the destruction. Either way, I am very glad to see it off the streets.

You are just about at the 1/2 way mark now; right? Thank God! February will be here soon, then July. :)

God bless and keep you and your Team. Thank you many times over for the hard work and sacrifice for our and their freedom.

  2. It depends on how you look at things. Remember, I had to seperate from my wife and kids three months before the deployment for training. We are either in our 9th of 15 months or, yes, half way.

Then again, two weeks of leave in FEB includes travel time. Our first two guys to go on leave got back recently. They were gone for nearly four weeks. So if you look at it that way, I have not six but five months left. I suppose it is a matter of perspective.

  3. Rich,
Before you know it you doing left seat/right seat rides for the new guys. I know you will hear it many times but remember that the safety procedures that worked for the first month will work for the the last month. Keep 'em alert, stay safe.
PS. The EOD guys like to make a big bang once in a while. It makes everyone feel good.
    Mike
