14JAN09--Commando Training: Clear Rooms

The Iraqi Brigade that my team mentors has what they call a 'commando company,' which is supposed to be a specialized infantry unit that executes high speed missions.  The company is still forming but, overall, lacks even basic training of infantry tactics.  My team is executing a training plan now to get this unit ready to conduct real world missions before the Iraqi election day at the end of this month.

We started off training how to clear a room with the intentions of building up to how to clear a building.

Clearing the room was not pretty at first, but I did not look so great doing this my first time either a few years ago.  By the end of the day, they were looking better.

Five Iraqis stacked up beside a doorway, getting ready to clear the room. An American sergeant critiques.

Once inside the room, American trainers corrected foot placement, stance, and direction of weapon.

The American in the background on the right is the main infantry skills trainer, Sergeant Bryant.

  1. That scope isn't going to help much in a room. :)

  3. Small world, Michelle. You showed him the pictures?
I bet he enjoyed the training. It is not only fun, but it builds a lot of confidence in a team.
