Notes from Iraq

13MAY09--May Pictures

Things have been quite busy, but I want to take a moment to at least upload some pictures.

A pickup bed full of Iraqi Soldiers is not an uncommon sight at all. I would keep a pillow handy too, if I were them. We are not talking about VDOT-paved roads here.

The white HMMWV is a police vehicle, and the woodland camoflauge truck is a less commonly seen Iraqi Army vehicle for commandos. In this instance, the two units are working together.

As we split ways and head for the trucks, our interpreter is left wondering what is going on. He insists on not wearing his headgear for cosmetic reasons and the idea of fate.

Sergeant KC Connaughton and Sergeant Brian Parker disagree about radio terminology down by the Tigeris River.

KC was right. He won a phot op with me. Congrats.

KC and Parker lounge on large couch with one of our interpreters. These couches are very popular in Iraq with at least five in every commander's office. Honestly, they are quite comfortable until they wear.

  1. It's great to see a few smiles and relaxed postures. Hope the busy schedule is making the time fly by Capt. Connaroe. Between the more intense duties anyway. Stay safe and tell KC and Brian to have a photo op in Roanoke if they get the chance. I think the terminology would be "say cheese."

  3. Ed S., that's just the result of the high shaneineh yogurt diet in Iraq. Sort of dietary IED's on those bumpy roads. :)
