Nearly 40 drug arrests made in Giles

The Giles County Sheriff's Office has spent the last two days arresting people who face drug-related charges.

The county's grand jury on Tuesday handed up 96 drug-related indictments, most for possession and distribution of illegal narcotics and paraphernalia, Sheriff Morgan Millirons said.

The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the county's drug task force from October 2008 to March 2009. During the investigation, Millirons said, deputies confiscated marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamines, ecstacy and various prescription medications.

The sheriff's office, the Virginia State Police and the Pearisburg, Glen Lyn, Rich Creek, Pembroke and Narrows police departments worked together to arrest nearly 40 people Wednesday and Thursday, Millirons said.
