Tech's 5K race has huge turnout

Some 4,300 runners and walkers participated in this morning's 5K race at Virginia Tech, including 800 people who walked up to the starting line this morning to join in.

The Run in Remembrance, a new event to the university's observance of the April 16, 2007, shootings, began at 8 a.m. at Alumni Mall and took runners past the Duck Pond and Grove Lane and onto the Drillfield.

The final runners were finishing the course at about 9:15 this morning.
