Update on Friday phone outage

On Friday, Carilion New River Valley lost phone and fax service for about five hours. Before press time, a representative could not be reached, but later this email came in from Verizon:

"[Friday] about 8 a.m. we had power trouble with some equipment serving the hospital and about other customers in the area- about 200 phone lines total. We repaired the equipment and service was restored around noon."

Here's a recap of Saturday's brief about the situation:

The outage was first noticed at Carilion between 3:30 and 4:30 a.m., and service was restored at 9:15 a.m., said Allison Buth, media relations specialist for Carilion Clinic. There was no interruption in patient care during the outage, Buth said.

A local representative for Verizon, Carilion NRV's provider, said he could not release details of any problems and directed questions to Verizon's corporate headquarters.
